Career Prospects

What are the career prospects after completing your Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the MSB Medical School?

Psychological disorders have increased considerably in recent years, partially due to the problems and demands of the working world. This is proven by the countless analyses already made by large health insurance providers.

According to current epidemiological studies, the need for psychotherapeutic treatment continues to increase apace. In contrast, it is unlikely that the current pool of psychotherapists can be maintained unless higher training capacities are created at universities and training facilities.

A recent study on the extremely long waiting lists for outpatient psychotherapy impressively points out the existing shortcomings. The economic importance of psychotherapy with a proven positive cost-benefit ratio continues to be significantly underestimated.

A major aspect of the course is that its curriculum creates the prerequisite for subsequent additional psychotherapeutic training, subject to recognition by the competent state authority. The curriculum of the Master's program in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, together with that of the Bachelor's program in Psychology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, corresponds to current and future minimum requirements for access to psychotherapy training. Admission to psychotherapy training is exclusively granted by the competent state authority.

Upon meeting the corresponding conditions, a successful Master’s degree enables you to pursue a doctorate.

Current trends suggest existing and increasing employment needs, particularly for the following fields of activity:

  • Medical rehabilitation
  • Counselling centers, e.g. psychological counselling centers, child and youth guidance centers
  • Hospitals, health centers, medical care centers, in the context of integrated care
  • Outpatient practices/communal practices
  • Health and health care research, health monitoring

Areas of application:

  • Medical Rehabilitation
  • Consulting
  • Hospitals
  • Private Practice
  • Health and Health Care Services Research
